Canon EOS Digital Rebel 300D
The camera that started it all. The EOS Digital Rebel is a great first digital SLR camera. I had reservations about getting into SLR photography having only had prior experience using point-and-shoots like the Canon S30 (my first digital camera) and the S45. After playing with a friend's Rebel, I was convinced. It was really easy to use and took fantastic pictures. The colors and sharpness were incomparable to the point-and-shoots. I decided to pony up the $800 for the kit with the 18-55mm lens and so began my love affair with photography (and the spiral of spending that comes along with it). I highly recommend getting this camera with the kit lens as it's a great deal.
This camera model was replaced by the 350D Rebel XT. But if you can find it on the aftermarket on Craigslist or eBay, you are in for a treat. Because the resale prices of camera bodies drops regularly with the introduction of next generation models, you can probably find one of these for about $500 or so used. It's a great camera to learn on and experiment with. I highly recommend this camera to those with a tight budget and unwilling to part with the $900 it costs to get the big sister XT version of the Digital Rebel. Don't hesitate, get this camera and join the club.
