Camera Bags

Whether you're going on a day trip, a hike, a wedding or a long vacation, you are going to need to find the right bag(s) for each occasion. Some people prefer waistpacks, others prefer backpacks and still others prefer slingbags. Whatever the occasion, quick access to your lenses, filters, and other accessories will be very important when choosing a bag. The most popular brands of bags are from Lowepro and Tamrac.

Here are a few popular bags:

LowePro Topload Mini
The very first bag I bought with my Digital Rebel. This bag was good to me for a long time. It was compact and fit the Rebel with the kit lens perfectly. But once I moved from the kit lens, it didn't fit anymore. I eventually gave it to a friend who bought the XT and was just getting started. It's a good investment if you plan on sticking with the kit lens for a while because it's so compact and convenient. Plus it's only $20.

LowePro Nova 2 AW
This is the bag that I use all the time when I want to carry all my equipment. I can store my 20D with the EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS lens (and it fit with the 24-70mm f/2.8L), my 50mm 1.8, and the 70-200mm f/4L telephoto zoom. I can even shove my 580EX flash in the front pocket. It's a nice compact bag that can hold a lot of stuff well. It's also AW (All-Weather) so you can pull this protective covering from under the bag to wrap around the bag and protect your expensive equipment from water damage. Not bad for about $40!

Tamrac Velocity 6
I was looking all over for a compact sling bag for walking around and traveling with and I came up with this one. Apparently there aren't too many options when looking for a sling. I found myself wanting a sling when I was always turning my bag around from my backside to my front to quickly access my camera for those just in time shots. It was a pain and I really wanted one that I could just slide around and get to. The 6 was the perfect size for my 20D with the 17-85 IS or kit lens and even fits the 50 1.8 II in there snugly too. The pocket in front also has nice little CF organizers. Definitely a good buy for any XT or 20D owner at only $30.

LowePro Stealth Reporter 300 AW
I think this will probably be my next bag purchase. The Stealth Reporter AW series from LowePro are some of their top of the line bags designed for demanding and on-the-move photo journalists who also need to be discrete. The 300 series can hold your camera, 4-5 lenses, a flash and accessories all in a pretty tight space. Another nice feature is the quick-access top zip so you can get your camera without having to open the whole bag up.
