GIMP

Postby 37fleetwood on Tue Jan 20, 2009 2:32 am

I am a Linux user so I'm kinda used to getting everything for free, however I just recently noticed that the standard Linux image manipulation program GIMP has been ported to Mac and Windows. if you're interested in a free photo manipulation program which is every bit as full featured as Photoshop without the price you might want to check it out. the only thing to keep in mind is that it isn't Photoshop so it will not always be familiar to use but it really has some very cool features. the one I'm having fun with is called script-fu. script-fu lets you set up a set or script of actions and save it as a filter of sorts. here's the link if you are interested. http://www.gimp.org/ and here is an example of one of the default scriptfu filters I thought was cool. it makes modern photos look like old photos.

Cool effect.
I've used Gimp before (after I lost Photoshop once). It is useful once you are accustomed to it. I had difficulty finding where all of the functions I needed were.
