HP and Canon printers

HP and Canon printers

Postby Scepter on Tue Feb 20, 2007 6:43 am

I bought a Canon IP 4300 recently. Previously I had an HP inkjet. I have found that on both printers there is a purple hew to the black & white photos when they are printed on glossy photo paper. (and the printer is set for that paper type) With a seperate black inktank I could not understand why this was happening. I did some quick research and found a supposed HP employee who said that HP printers (not sure of the latest models - 7 ink tanks?) did not use the black tank when you print on photo glossy but had to use the color tanks to combine and create the blacks. He said that the black ink does not perform well on glossy so it gets turned off.

I am seeing the same results from the Canon. I tried the same black & white photo on photo matte paper and the results look better. Does anyone else have this problem printing on photo paper? Any Epson users have different results?

Great Not what i wanted to hear about the Pixma. I got the ip6700d for my Birthday. should i send it back? naw Probably use the lil Polaroid with the picbridge thingy for B & W and see how it works(it was free). of course there's always the local pharmacy photo processing for B & W when in a jam

I have had this same problem so I try to avoid printing B&W on glossy paper.

Does your printer have grey ink? I am not familiar with that printer. What happens is if your printer only has black ink and then a few other colors, it needs to make "grey" some how and it uses other tones, sometimes red, blue or yellow and it gives them a certain tinge of color that is not black or grey. In your case you are getting purple-ish hue. No way to really fix it but to get a printer with quite a few different ink cartridges. How do I make my printer work with my wireless computers? We have 4 computers in our house. Three are currently wireless, one hardwired. We have one printer that is connected with wires to one of the wireless computers. Right now, we can only print using that one computer. So if we are working on one of the other computers, we have to save the file and email it to ourselves and go open it on the "printing" computer. How can I print from the other three computers? Is there a way to link it all now or do I need to go buy some more equipment for the printer? Or do only certain printers have these capabilities?

If you go in to the Control Panel, and in to the printers (on the computer it's plugged in to), and right click on the printer and open up Properties, there should be a tab for Sharing. Once its shared, you can installed it as a network printers on the other computers (if it's the same operating system, you probably won't even needs disks).
