Digital Rebel XT/Generic Lens

Postby akb14141 on Sat Feb 13, 2010 2:15 pm

Greetings...

I am new to this forum so bear with me if this question has been asked before.

I purchased a Canon Digital Rebel XT back in 2007. Shortly after, I purchased a generic (Phoenix brand) 100-300mm f/5.6-6.7 AF zoon lens that served me well for 2 seasons as a local college football team's photographer. This past season, I started getting an Error 99 message every time I had the Phoenix lens hooked up to the Rebel. Now, that is ALL I get when that lens is attached to the camera body.

I NEED to purchase a new zoom lens that will work for football photography before the season starts again in September, but my question is - will a Canon brand lens work with my camera if I purchase it, or am I going to need to have something serviced before they can work together?

Just curious as I'm trying to weigh costs...

Thanks so much!

Do you have any other lenses, and do they work fine with the camera? Try cleaning the contacts on the lens and camera body, as that could be a possibility.
