Canon EF 300mm f/4L IS USM
For the focal length this is a decently compact telephoto lens and includes IS (image stabilization) which can essentially get you down to about an f/2.8 stop. That being said it's not an ideal lens for handholding if you're indoors or in low light. It's only 9 inches long and at this focal length relatively light. The quality is excellent and the results are very sharp.
