Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM
If you have the money to spend, this lens is definitely superior to the $80 EF 50mm f/1.8 lens (which is not to say you shouldn't still get a f/1.8 since they're so compact). The colors are better and the bokeh is higher quality than the 1.8, but you also pay for them. Here is a side-by-side comparison of the two lenses from Photo.net.
